Rockpool creatures!

Image
Elaine, an HES Ranger, came to visit us with lots of creatures we might find in a rockpool on our trip to the beach on 7 June. This seaweed is longer than Elaine! Can you remember what shellfish made these marks on the rock?

What is a seed?

We had a visit from Tesco Community Champion Paula, who took along lots of samples of fruit and vegetables to show us lots of different kinds of seeds.

ECO Action Day

Image
We turned Papdale blue for ECO Action Day, and had fun activities which helped us to think about how lucky we are to have toilets and clean water - things we normally take for granted. We not only had fun, but we raised lots of money to take part in  'Toilet Twinning'.  Thank you for your support. If you want to find out more you can visit the website  https://www.toilettwinning.org/group/schools/ An ECO Hunt at the Adventure Playground for us to find our class question.  We now have to research to find out the answer to take to Assembly on Friday. 'Walk in your shoes'    We then had a big bottle of water to carry across the All Weather Pitch in relays.  This made us think about how lucky we are to have clean water in taps and not to have to walk miles to carry it to our home or school.

Superworm comes to P2!

Image
We love the book Superworm by Julia Donaldson, and have used it for learning through play.  This approach is called 'Plan Do Review'.  Children plan their own learning and then carry out a 'review' of how it went.  This time we finished with a piece of writing based on the story.   We learned in lots of different ways, but the main learning is to be able to  work safely and fairly together. Investigating minibeasts. Making Superworm Acting out the story Reading information books about minibeasts Making minibeast characters from the story   Making minibeast habitats Illustrating the story with collage and paint Working out the life cycle of a frog from egg - tadpole - froglet - frog  Our finished wall frieze!

Our Trip to the Secret Garden

Image
P2 have been thinking about living and non-living things in school. We went a walk up to the secret garden to see if we could see or hear any signs of things that are living, non-living or used to be living. We found a beautiful flower that we thought looked like the flower from Beauty and the Beast. We explored around the rocks and found some minibeasts. We found a hole in the ground. We wondered if it was a rabbit hole. We acted out being living and non-living things. We enjoyed exploring in the secret garden today! Lots of plants growing under this stone. Is this a rose?  No it's a t - - - p. We made a home for a bird. We thought this tree stump had a face on it. We were busy recording different items we had to find, such as something living, something that used to live and something rough.
