Book Study of Room on the Broom

Image
In term 2 we completed a book study of 'Room on the Broom' by  Julia Donaldson . We got to know the s tory  and the characters  through lots of fun activities.   This was the Tuff Spot area where we could make potions.   This was the craft area where we could make witch pictures using different shapes. This was the playdough area where we made witch faces and finger nail pies.  This was the story creating area where we used the stick puppets and settings to tell our own stories.  This was the writing area where we wrote our own potions.

Playpark challenge

Image
As part of our Playpark topic, we held a challenge to make a model of a playpark using items of 'junk'.  We worked together in small groups.  Learning how to work together, to share and co-operate with resources, ideas and workload was the most important part of the learning in this challenge, but we made some pretty good models too! First we planned what would be in our Playpark and what we needed. Then we sorted our resources. First we planned what equipment would be in our playpark and what we would need to make them.  Then we started to gather the junk we needed and worked together to make our playpark. When we finished our playpark's we labelled all of the equipment and assessed its safety.

We worked together to put our ideas into our models. Each member of the group has a role.  Here Neave is the Quality Checker, and is using the plan to help the group check their model with the Success Criteria.

Celebrating Sukkot

Image
As part of our Harvest celebrations, we learned about the Jewish festival of Sukkot , when Jews remember being freed from slavery by God.  They spent 40 years in the desert, before finding the Promised Land of Israel.   During their time in the wilderness, they built shelters out of dry palms and branches.  This is called a Sukkah .   During Sukkot, families build Sukkah and spend as much time as they can living in it.    2M went outside to look for a good place to build our Sukkah.    Four plants are important symbols to Jews, including the willow, so we chose this spot among the willow trees. We enjoyed our story in our Sukkah.
